Rio Ferdinand out of World Cup, Dawson flies in

England skipper out

England captain and defender, Rio Ferdinand is officially out of the World Cup. This has been confirmed by the England FA after Ferdinand suffered a left knee ligament injury during a training session. He was tackled by Aston Villa forward, Emile Heskey during England's first training session since they arrived in South Africa.

The England skipper was taken to the hospital for scans and his worst was confirmed when was told that he had injured his ligaments in the knee. This is a huge blow to England's chances in winning the World Cup since the last they won it in 1966.

Tottenham Hotspur's, Michael Dawson who was part of the original 30 man called up by Fabio Capello but was cut from the 23 man squad when it was announced is flying in to replace the Manchester United defender. He was put as standby by Capello and is expected to arrive in South Africa on Friday to join the rest of the squad.
